AURORA CUNHA
Three-time world road running champion in three consecutive years: 1984, 1985, and 1986, winner of four major world marathons: Paris (1988), Tokyo (1988), Chicago (1990), and Rotterdam (1992), as well as the São Silvestre de São Paulo in 1988. Aurora Cunha is one of the most emblematic Portuguese athletes, having left an indelible mark on the world of athletics. Born in Ronfe, Guimarães, she gained international notoriety by winning several prestigious marathons and middle-distance races during the 1980s and early 1990s. With a determined running style and unparalleled resilience, Aurora reached the podium in world competitions, consolidating herself as one of the great long-distance and middle-distance runners in the history of athletics. Aurora Cunha's dedication and passion for athletics have made her a source of inspiration for many young athletes and have cemented her position as one of the great champions of Portuguese sports. Even after retiring from professional competitions, Aurora's legacy continues to influence and inspire generations, both in Portugal and on the world stage.
JOÃO NETO
Known as "The Marathoner of Impossible Things," he is an inexhaustible source of inspiration that today infects athletes, entrepreneurs, students, and people from all over the world. He began his journey in the world of running near the age of 50, but João Neto not only participated in several marathons but did something even more extraordinary! He achieved other remarkable feats such as running 7 marathons in 7 consecutive days on 7 continents, something only within the reach of very few Human Beings. Behind his passion for running is Mariana, his beloved 20-year-old daughter, who with her motor and visual limitations, became the main inspiration for this super athlete, leading him to challenge his own limits. In Aveiro, in 2023, he accomplished a truly inspiring feat, running the 42k marathon while pushing a wheelchair with four fascinating children with special needs who had the opportunity to experience the marathon celebration. João Neto, in 2024, will return to Aveiro to once again prove that inclusion should be part of the mission of a great event and each one of us.
