AVEIRO EUROPEAN MARATHON 2026 – REGULATIONS
Organization
The Maratona da Europa – Aveiro is organized by the Aveiro City Council and GlobalSport, a commercial brand of GSX Portugal Lda, with the support and involvement of the Regional Tourism Authority of Centro de Portugal and the Ílhavo City Council.
Racing
There will be four races:
– Marathon – 42.195 km, for participants born in 2006 and earlier;
– Half Marathon – 21.0975 km, for participants born in 2008 and earlier;
– Mini-Marathon – around 10 km, for participants born in 2008 and earlier;
– Walk: 5 km, aimed at all age groups and non-competitive.
It is compulsory to wear the event’s official T-shirt during the walk. Only duly registered athletes will take part.
Duration
The races have a time limit of six hours for the marathon, three hours for the half-marathon, one hour and forty minutes for the mini-marathon (10km) and one hour and thirty minutes for the walk.
After the race sweeper has passed, participants who are on the course and wish to continue will be under their own responsibility and will have to obey the traffic rules of the Portuguese Highway Code.
Any participant arriving at the 23rd km of the marathon after 12:10 p.m. and at the 33rd km of the marathon after 1:30 p.m. must hand in their bib and leave the race and/or get into the broom as they exceed the time limit set by the organization for completing the marathon distance.
The organizers will control the pace of the walk.

Registration
The data entered when registering is the responsibility of the user, who is fully responsible for the accuracy, veracity and authenticity of the data. They can be found at: www.europemarathon.pt
Registrations are only confirmed after payment. You can obtain your proof of registration by logging in to your personal page at events.globalsport.co.uk > My Account >
Entries made and select European Marathon – Aveiro.
- Payment must be made within the deadlines indicated on the registration platform. After this deadline, registrations for the event will not be accepted by the organization for non-payment – if you do not pay within the established deadlines, you must reopen the registration at http://events/globalport.pt and generate new payment references with the price and registration conditions at that time.
- If you pay after the date indicated in the payment instructions on the registration platform, your registration will be canceled – you will have up to 30 days after registering to request a refund by sending an email to info@globalsport.pt. A fee of €10 will be charged for this service, which will be allocated to “Registration management costs”.
- Any change of data in the registration will have an associated cost of €5 and is only possible until March 20, 2026.
- No refunds will be given for canceled registrations at any time.
- The transfer of bibs / registrations or their sale to third parties is not authorized. The organization will prevent people who do this from registering for future events by identifying the bib used by third parties.
- The organization reserves the right to award sub-elite bibs to participants invited by it. Any registered athlete may apply to the organization for a sub-elite bib for the marathon and half-marathon, providing proof of a time of less than 2h30 (men) or 2h40 (women) in a marathon race and 1h10 (men) or 1h20 (women) in a half-marathon race in the last three years. Proof must be sent to info@globalsport.pt by April 1, 2026 with the subject line: “Sub-elite Dorsal”.
- The organization may at any time suspend or extend deadlines or add to or limit the number of entries for the event due to technical/structural needs/availability without prior notice.
- The data used for the rankings are those provided at the time of registration.
IMPORTANT: The participant expressly consents to their basic data being passed on to the insurance company responsible for carrying out compulsory accident and civil liability insurance, as well as publishing the classifications of the different races in the event. In accordance with data protection regulations, you may in future exercise your rights of access, rectification, cancellation or opposition by emailing GlobalSport at info@globalsport.pt.
Participation Kit
For collection, participants must have proof of registration and/or photo ID.
If the requested T-shirt size is out of stock, an alternative size will be suggested.
The race kit will be delivered on dates and at places to be announced on the event’s website.
The organization will give you the opportunity to collect bibs on the day of the race up to half an hour before the start. It will be delivered exclusively to the bib holder upon presentation of the registration receipt with bib number in paper or digital format, which can be obtained at events.globalsport.pt > My Account > Entries Made and select European Marathon – Aveiro.
All registered participants are required to write on the back of their bib their full name, emergency telephone number and whether they have any specific health problems to which special attention should be paid or any ongoing treatment.
If you are unable to collect your bib in person, you can send your original proof of registration by a third party for collection in the days before the day of the race. day of the race.

Processing fees for online registrations are added to the prices shown.
In accordance with current legislation, the invoice must be requested after payment has been made on the page where you registered. If you signed up with a partner, you must request it using the registration details sent to your e-mail address at https://events.globalsport.pt/. You have three days to request it. Registrations from children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult – two registrations are allowed for each adult registered.
Grades
Marathon / Half Marathon / 10K:
- Athletes born in 2006 and earlier for the Marathon and athletes born in 2008 and earlier for the Half Marathon and 10K;
- F/M40 (aged between 40 and 44);
- F/M45 (Ages between 45 and 49);
- F/M50 (aged between 50 and 54);
- F/M55 (aged between 55 and 59);
- F/M60 (ages over 60)
The age group is based on the exact age on the day of the race.
For a group to be formed, at least three participants of the same sex must be present at the starting line. Participants in classes that are not formed will be placed in the class immediately preceding the one they are in.
Walk – Participants of all ages.
Supplies
Marathon and Half Marathon:
- 5 in 5k and goal
10K and Walk:
- Midway point and end of route
These positions may change depending on weather conditions.
Assistance
There will be medical teams at the race who, together with specialized ambulances, will provide all possible medical support in the first phase. Continuity of medical care, if necessary, will be provided by the national health service.
The organization undertakes to conclude the sports insurance contract required by law, valid and in favour of all registered non-federated participants. If the participant is admitted to a National Health Service institution, he/she must inform the organization as soon as possible in order to activate the insurance, running the risk of the process not being accepted if this notification is not made in time. Participants are responsible for paying the user charges, which may be reimbursed by the insurance company if the process meets the necessary requirements.
In order to discipline the participants and the traffic of people and vehicles throughout the race, there will be public order forces, identified volunteers and elements of the organization to whom all attention and collaboration should be given. Vehicles not belonging to the organization will not be allowed. For the safety of the participants, people, motorcycles, bicycles, animals, skateboards, rollerblades or other objects that put the safety of the participants at risk will not be allowed to take part, and event security will remove them from the race.
Services
CLOSET
The organization provides a closet area at the start/ finish line for participants in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K. To collect your belongings, you must present your bib. We do not recommend leaving valuables and/or fragile objects inside the bags, as the organization is not responsible for any items left in the closet.
SHOWERS
Participants will be provided with showers at a place and time to be consulted in the information on the event website.
Ratings
Marathon / Half Marathon / 10K:
The rankings will be presented at www.europemarathon.pt and may be altered if there are any inconsistencies.
Walking:
There will be no individual or group rankings.
Timing
The race is timed using an electronic system – “chip” – which, in order to be read, the athlete must wear the bib (which contains the chip) clearly visible on the front of the chest throughout the race in perfect condition. All participants in the marathon, half-marathon and mini-marathon must use the chip provided to the athlete, which is personal and non-transferable. The organization will not be held responsible for any failure in the presentation of results resulting from the misplacement of the chip. All participants who complete the race with another athlete’s chip, more than one chip or do not have one of the intermediate controls will be disqualified.
Jury
The race jury is the responsibility of the Regional Refereeing Council of the Aveiro Athletics Association.
Awards
All participants in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K who finish the race are entitled to a participation medal.
The individual monetary prizes will be awarded to the participants in the men’s and women’s General classification and Veterans M/F40, M/F45, M/F50, M/F55, M/F60 (for the class prizes to be awarded, they must finish in a number equal to or greater than 10 athletes of the same gender), will be awarded exclusively to the Marathon race.
No general classification prizes will be paid in the marathon for men over 2:35:00 and women over 2:55:00.

Trophies for the top three (3) overall male and female finishers in the Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10K will be awarded at the podium ceremony.
Participants in the Marathon, regardless of their age group, will be eligible for the prize corresponding to their place in the General Classification, or
Portuguese Classification, which cannot be accumulated. The prize awarded will be the one with the highest value.
Marathon and half-marathon prizes must be claimed by runners within 30 days of the race. To do this, participants have a form available on the prizes page of the event’s website, under “request prize”, which they can fill in and send the requested documents – the old ‘green receipt’ or individual act should be sent to GSX Portugal Lda with the tax identification number, 514779012. Payment will be made within 30 days of receiving all the documents and in accordance with the instructions of the World Athletics anti-doping committee.
The value of the cash prizes awarded will be subject to the tax law in force.
Infringements
Athletes who:
- Don’t do the start control;
- Do not complete the entire route;
- Don’t wear your bib on your chest during the race;
- Falsify any element relating to their registration;
- Run with a bib that doesn’t match your registration name;
- Run over the sidewalks;
- Intentionally harm your opponents.
– Level Crossing* – The route includes a crossing zone at a level crossing (PN). In accordance with the regulations on crossing level crossings, defined by decree law, all participants are obliged to comply with them (the full safety procedure, which participants are obliged to adopt, is described at the end of the regulations). Participants in the event therefore agree with and must comply with the following premises: “Rail vehicles have absolute priority”; it is forbidden to “enter level crossings when they are shown a prohibition sign, either by signage or by railway staff working at the level crossing. Failure to comply will result in a legal infringement to which the organization will not be held responsible. There will be security forces on site who will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring legal compliance for event participants crossing the PN.
Resources
Any complaint or protest must be submitted in writing to the race jury on site no later than 30 minutes after the results have been announced, together with a fee of 100 EUROS, which will be refunded if the protest is upheld.
Anti-doping control
Participants may be subject to a doping test.
REGULATIONS / PERSONAL DATA / LIABILITY
By confirming their registration, participants declare that they acknowledge and accept these regulations, the data protection and disclaimer text. In case of doubt, the decision of the organization prevails.
Disclaimer and protection:
By registering, the participant declares the following: “I am in excellent health to take part in the European Marathon – Aveiro (including the absence of signs and symptoms of Covid-19). I exclude all responsibility from the organization and sponsors or other participating institutions for any accident or injury I may suffer before, during and/or after the sporting event, waiving any legal action against any of the aforementioned entities. During the course of the competition I will contribute as much as possible to the Organization to avoid personal accidents.
I also authorize the Organization to make publicity use of the photos, videos and any other type of audiovisual material in which I may appear, accepting the publication of my name in the race standings, in the media and/or internet, without expecting any payment, compensation or retribution for this object”
The organization recommends that all participants undergo a medical assessment before the event. All participants accept the risk arising from sporting activity. Any cases not covered by these regulations will be resolved in accordance with the General Competition Regulations of the Portuguese Athletics Federation.
Every participant consents to the free and unconditional transfer of the rights to use their personal data for marketing purposes, and their image captured in the official filming and photography that will take place during the events, consenting to its reproduction in the organization’s own media or that of third parties.
We inform you that the personal data of the participants is registered in a file, whose responsible is the company “GSX Portugal Lda.”, with address at Rua Delminda Pinto Ribeiro, nº 17 5050-346 Poiares – Peso da Régua. The purpose of this file is to manage the personal data of participants registered for the races.
The data collected may be passed on to third parties for marketing purposes. If you wish to exercise your rights of access, opposition, right to be forgotten or withdraw your consent, you must do so in writing, proving your identity to the address described or by emailing info@globalsport.pt.
Cancellation or Postponement of the Event
The event may be cancelled due to factors external to the ORGANIZATION:
Natural disasters, strikes, demonstrations, pandemic, inability to use traffic routes*inability to use telecommunications, government restrictions, new legislation. In these cases, the ORGANIZATION reserves the right to issue an opinion within 30 days of the scheduled date of the event on the actions to be taken as a result of the seriousness of the cancellation. There will be no refund.
Specific Safety Procedure
Care to be taken by runners crossing the Vouga line level crossing Vouga line, in the Aveiro Marathon
21.1) Objective
The purpose of this Specific Safety Procedure is to describe the safety measures to be taken by runners taking part in the Aveiro Marathon when crossing the level crossing (PN) on the Vouga line.
22.2) Location
Around km 1.3 of the Aveiro Marathon, runners will cross the guarded PN located at Km 34.060 of the Vouga Line on Avenida D. António Francisco dos Santos.

21.3) Characterization
The guarded level crossing of the Vouga line is equipped with protective means (barriers) as well as light and acoustic signals, which will be active when a train approaches.

21.4) Risks of crossing a NP
When crossing a NP there is a risk of:
- hit by a train;
- slipping on the floor and rails, especially in wet weather;
21.5) Safety requirements / Duties of users crossing the NP
According to article 22 – Duties of Users of DL 568/99, in the PN
- you should only cross once you have taken every precaution to do so without danger to yourself or others;
O crossing can only take place when:
- no there is sign indicating obstruction and the user has taken the necessary precautions to ensure that no train traffic is approaching;
- the half barriers are completely open;
- the light and/or sound gives indication;
It is especially forbidden for users/athletes:
Enter the NP when they are shown indication of prohibitioneither by signsor by the railway agent on duty at the PN;
21.6) Training/Information
Dissemination to athletes and police forces by publishing the attached flyer on the website and social networks (source: Safety Tips – ILCAD).
